About True Colors
Photos by Kessia Embry & painting by inga brege
True Colors is a collaborative project of art, photography, and humans. This venture captures verbal expressions of identity and translates them into visual declarations of one's true essence. Through storytelling, body-painting, and portrait photography sessions, Kessia Embry and Inga Brege embark on an exciting adventure to provide a more comprehensive representation of the human experience.
Our initial session was a beautiful and intimate exploration of how the constructs of external perspective affect people's sense of identity.
To participate in an upcoming session, check out the scheduled events below. This project is global and ongoing. If you'd like True Colors to come to your town, city, or country, feel free to contact us.
About the Artists
Kessia Embry and Inga (née Headland) Brege have known each other since birth. Literally. Their mothers were best friends, pregnant at the same time, and next door neighbors in Long Beach, California. The Embry's lived in a trailer park and the Headland's resided in the adjoining, rundown apartment complex. Born within months of each other, Kessia and Inga were destined to be life-long friends.
Coming from families filled with painters, actors, and musicians, it is no surprise Kessia and Inga grew up to become artists themselves. They are thrilled to launch their first collaborative project: True Colors.
A photography portrait is an opportunity to engage and connect with people and participate in their stories. I value the moments and connections with people that are, not at first obvious. but explore a common desire for acceptance.
One of my fascinations with human nature is how we process our experiences; by internalizing and then reflecting them back to the world. These reflections of self can often manifest themselves in symbolic ways. My intention with True Colors is to define these human experiences and celebrate how they help shape us into beautiful, unique people.
Kessia is a self-taught published photographer, currently residing in Los Angeles.
I earned my bachelor's degree from The University of Michigan and master's from Harvard University. I've lived and worked all over the world and currently reside in Denver, CO. My art is a reflection of the human experience and all the stories, mentalities, and passions therein.
